Words #6: Summer

 {photo 1 | 2 | 3 }

Summer
noun

1. The warmest season of the year, in the northern hemisphere from June to August and in the southern hemisphere from December to February.

Summer is here. Long days, short nights. Hot sun, cool breezes. Dresses, sandals, light hair, tanned skin. Green trees, bright flowers. Walks on the beach, feet dipped into streams, water fights. Reading outside, picnics, lying in the grass with your friends, making daisy chains.
But Summer is going to be leaving soon. Shorter days, longer nights. Weaker sun, harsher breezes. Jeans, boots, dark hair, light skin. Brown trees, wilting flowers. Too cold for anything like that. School starts again.
Let's enjoy summer, before it leaves.

Thanks for reading.

Words #5: The Small Things

{photo 1 | 2 | 3 }

Small
adjective

1. Of a size that is less than normal or usual.

2. Insignificant; unimportant.

When you curl up with a blanket, a hot drink and a good book on a rainy day. When an idea arrives, a spark of inspiration after staring at a blank page for so long. When you're with your best friend and you laugh so hard your mouth hurts and your stomach aches. When somebody calls you pretty. When the sun is shining for once. When your mum hugs you tight and you feel safe. When someone plays with your hair. When you crawl into a bed of freshly washed sheets. When somebody remembers something insignificant about you - your piano lesson last night, what you did on the weekend, your life-long dream. When you're crying so hard you feel like you're about to break and then somebody hugs you. When you're about to shatter inside and someone says "I know you're not okay. Talk to me." When some random, beautiful, person decides to follow my blog. When a stranger comments on a post saying how amazing my writing is, how beautiful I am, how much they love my blog. These small, unimportant, tiny things make my day, my week, my year, my life. Thank you to everyone who does something small to me. Because you don't understand how much it means to me, how much my heart sings and swoops and dives and bursts whenever somebody hugs me, talks to me, comments, follows, remembers me, loves me.

Thank you for reading. I love you all

P.S. I am sooooooo sorry for not doing a Words in so long. How long has it been? *checks blog archive* Okay, so it's only been 2 weeks - I last did one on 1st June. But it's still a long time and it feels like ages! I really hope you liked this one. :) Love you guys!

P.P.S. I stopped myself from saying Little Things because everybody would be off singing One Direction... ;)

Words #4: Book

{photo 1 | 2 | 3 }

Book
noun

1. A written or printed work consisting of pages glued or sewn together along one side and bound in covers.

Books are my life, as I'm sure you've all realised! I've been reading before I could read - little me used to enthusiastically point at pictures and babble nonsense - and then when I could read, I never stopped. Books are my escape. They take me to far off lands, transport me to the stars and into made up worlds. They give me people I love and hate, people that become my friends, part of me, as I turn the pages. I get scared, run into battle, fall in love with these people, because they aren't just words. They are real to me. I suppose books are the closest thing we get to magic.

Thanks for reading

P.S. I finished City of Heavenly Fire yesterday! It was so good - my heart! I think I would have finished it on Friday, but sadly I was away at a book festival, so I didn't have a lot of time to read! I will be posting a book talk thingy, just walking through the book. I will be posting a book haul as well, so that those of you who haven't read/are reading City of Heavenly Fire will have something to read :) I think I'll post the book haul tomorrow (Monday) and then the book talk on Tuesday. Love you guys!

Words #3: Home

House
noun

1. A building for human habitation, especially one that consists of a ground floor and one or more upper storeys.

Home
noun

1. The place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household.

There's a lot of difference between a house and a home. A house is an empty thing, a shell with no love, no warmth, no memories to fill it. A home is a happy place, somewhere to be safe and to hide from everything bad. But a home is more than just a place. It's a feeling. You can find a home in a place you don't live, in something you do, in the company of a person, in religion. I feel at home with my family. I feel at home when I'm reading. I feel at home in the book shop. I feel at home when I'm writing. I feel at home in the library. I feel at home with her by my side. I feel at home with God. I feel safe in these places and with these people. That to me is what home means. Home is where you live, sure. But home is where you feel safe, where you feel loved, where you are with the people you love.

Words #2: Sleep

 {photo 1 | 2 | 3 }

Sleep
noun

1. A condition of body and mind which typically recurs for several hours every night, in which the nervous system is inactive, the eyes closed, the postural muscles relaxed, and consciousness practically suspended.

The definitions of these words make them sound so simple, so...technical. A chemical reaction. Something in our biology. A scientific event.
I love sleep. The way your eyelids droop and your vision blurs, everything going out of focus. The way your breathing slows and your heart beat is the only thing you hear. When you close your eyes and see amazing patterns in brilliant colours and fantastic light shows that dance across your eyelids. Those stretches you do in the morning, like a flower bud unfurling its petals and the way your hair is messy and frizzy but it doesn't matter. Not yet, anyway, because you're still too tired to care.
When you fall asleep and have the most wonderful dream, where you are the happiest you can be. You wake up but close your eyes instantly, trying to get back to that happy place. But you can fall asleep and go to the darkest place you know. All your fears come alive, the shadows and monsters that haunt the back of your mind when you're awake now plague you as you sleep. The dreams and the nightmares are so vivid but it's not real - it's our mind. It's like a cinema in your head. You fall asleep and the movie begins, but you don't know whether it will be your favourite film or a horror movie turning on. And then the movie ends and you wake up and all the details drift away but the things you felt stay with you. The feelings still linger - the fast beating heart, the smile on your face, the helplessness, the happiness. Sleep is such a normal, routine thing, but it's actually, rather incredible.

P.S. Sorry for not posting Bout of Books updates - I really haven't been reading that much (oops) I will be doing a general update of how much I read over all at the end of the read a thon, so keep an eye out for that! :)

Words #1: Love

{photo 1 | 2 | 3 }

Love
noun

1. A strong feeling of affection.

But love is so much more than those few words. Love cannot be defined. Love is different for everyone and yet we still try to define something that nothing can explain. Love is a beautiful thing that we cannot even begin to understand. It is simple, warm, soft and smooth but at the same time, complicated, cool and rough around the edges. It is a smile, a hug, a kiss. It is a squeeze of a hand or a whisper in an ear. It is found in so many words but is also found in the silent conversations; the quirk of a mouth, the laughter in their eyes, the shrug of shoulders. Love is laughing until your sides hurt and crying until your eyes burn, both with the same person. It is a tap on the nose and a stroke of a face. It is playing with their hair and making daisy chains. It is doing nothing and still having the best time. Love is many things. But one thing it isn't is describable.

P.S. I'm going to be starting this new thing on my blog. (Hopefully) Every Sunday, I will do a Words post, which will be a short post like this, but about different words and such. So yeah. Let me know in the comments below if you liked this post and if you did, then I will continue with this little posting series. Thanks! >.<
